Clint Capela, starting Center for the Houston Rockets, is launching a new foundation to provide low-income, single parents with the necessary resources needed so they can provide their children with the same opportunities that dual-parent, middle-income peers get to experience. With one in four children living in single-parent households, there is a well-demonstrated need in Texas for outreach programs that provide assistance to the parents and their children. Capela, who is a Swiss native, is titling his personal charity Clint Capela’s CC15 Foundation as a reference to his jersey number.

The mission of impacting low-income, single-parent families is one that has significant personal meaning to Capela. Born in Geneva, Switzerland, Cepala is the son of parents from Angola and the Congo. Shortly after birth, his father left the family, leaving his mother to raise Clint and his brothers by herself. The young boys were in and out of orphan homes while growing up in Paris, France. The responsibility placed on Capela as a young man allows him to relate in a very special way to children who live in single-parent homes.

The CC15 Foundation will engage the community through a number of ongoing outreach programs. These programs, which include a Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway and a Holiday Toy Drive, will feature Capela and his Rockets teammates joining forces to provide memorable experiences to families who normally would not otherwise have the resources to celebrate the holidays. The Foundation will also hold an annual program specifically targeting mothers and fathers of single-parent families. The mothers will be treated to a VIP Champagne Luncheon while the Fathers will be invited to an exciting tailgate experience. Each program will provide deserving parents with an opportunity to "take a minute" for themselves and enjoy the company of other adults in similar situations.

Capela held his foundation’s inaugural community outreach program in December, when he visited the DePelchin Children’s Center in Houston to distribute new toys through the Center’s annual toy giveaway. Capela, whose donation helped to purchase the new toys, spent time passing out the Christmas gifts and interacting with the orphans and foster children residing at the Children’s Center. The CC15 Foundation will be officially launched on March 29th, when Capela hosts his ‘Celebrity Slam’ fundraising event at the Market Square Tower in Houston.

This past offseason, Capela signed a five-year contract extension with the Houston Rockets, which will provide the budding NBA star with ample time to create a long-term, difference-making impact on the lives of disadvantaged youth in the community.
